I believe the true value of family is clearly visible when their support is present during our difficult times. Without difficult times it can be hard to witness the value and importance of family.

The presence of family during hardships provides an avenue to give and experience love.

Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. Colossians 3:13

During the time that our baby Jethro was in the NICU, the family joined us every single day. At times we would laugh and other times we would be silent. Hours would pass without saying a word. Time would seem to stand still. Hunger and thirst would never cross our minds. During this time, an opportunity to reflect on our lives was given.

The support of our family was crucial and priceless. Not because we needed things to be done for us, but because it accentuated what is truly important in life. People over things. We all inherently seem to know this truth but many seem to ignore it or simply forget it. However, when everyone agrees that carrying for each other is the priority, amazing things happen. The air becomes lite and peaceful. Past wrongs are forgotten and future joys are experienced.

To some extent or another, everything changes. Styles, jobs, and friends change, they come and go with the season. But the one thing that really remains constant throughout our lives is family. Because of that, we try to make the best out of every situation.
